Dallas Area Paralegal Association's "Winter Wonderland" Luncheon Brightens Holiday Season for SPCA of Texas

From the Dallas Morning News

DALLAS – Dec. 15, 2009 –The Dallas Area Paralegal Association (DAPA) hosted its annual holiday luncheon on Friday, December 4, 2009 at one of Dallas’ premiere private establishments, Park City Club.  Nestled in the Highland Park/University Park communities, Park City Club (PCC) provided the perfect setting for DAPA’s 2009 “Winter Wonderland” event.  Access to this spectacular venue was provided courtesy of local probate attorney and PCC member, Mr. Cooper Blankenship.

Each year the holiday luncheon committee chooses a local charity to receive all proceeds from the event’s raffle sales.  This year’s beneficiary was The SPCA of Texas.  Nearly $3,000 was raised to help The SPCA of Texas provide exceptional care and loving homes for its animals.  DAPA was honored to support such a wonderful and deserving organization.

Sondra Groves, DAPA Programs VP and Veronique Kinder, TERIS Regional Director of Electronic SalesMore than 125 guests enjoyed spectacular views of the city as they dined on delicious cuisine and listened as SPCA Humane Educator, Michelle Patterson, spoke of the SPCA’s mission to save animals and how donations help further their endeavors in our community.

DAPA is a voluntary non-profit corporation composed of paralegals, students and vendors working in all areas of law who are interested in furthering their own professional development and dedicated to the advancement of the paralegal profession.

TERIS helps Washington Food Bank Gather/Store More Food

When we went through our name change earlier this year, we faced a challenge common with other companies switching brands and identities: what to do with all of the stuff that had our old name?

Most notably, we had thousands of unassembled boxes (that usually are used to deliver and/or store legal documents with clients) that had our old name and logo.

FISH Letter Carrier Food DriveAfter trying to donate them to various local non-profit organizations, we received a great idea from a stranger via CraigsList: Why not donate them to a Food Bank? They probably could use them somehow.

Indeed!

Fortunately I had a connection - my Dad runs a food bank in Vancouver, Washington. I contacted him and asked if they would be useful and he gladly accepted. A week later more than 2,000 flattened boxes arrived at their storage facility.

A recent food drive held in conjunction with the US Post Office brought in lots of food - and fortunately FISH had a way to easily store and categorize it. "These boxes were a real life-saver for us," said FISH Vancouver Executive Director George Kaufer. "I'm glad you put these boxes to use instead of simply tossing them out or recycling the cardboard."

We're glad we could help - and will continue to look for ways we can continue to give back to non-profit organizations and communities we serve.

Oh what a night!

TERIS Casino NightThe temperature was an unseasonably scorching 90 degrees outside in Seattle on June 3rd when the doors opened for the First Annual TERIS/CASA Casino Night and Poker Tournament.

More than 150 sweltering Seattle legal professionals unaccustomed to such heat swarmed the Cirrus Ballroom on the 35th floor of the Seattle Sheraton for the festivities - and by all accounts a great time was had by all.

Check out our photo gallery from the party - and see if you recognize other legal professionals from the Seattle area.

The event served as a fundraiser for Washington State CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and more than $2,000 was raised (TERIS donated $10 for each attendee as well as $1 for each signature cocktail sold).

Among the prizes given out throughout the evening to lucky ticket holders:

  • Weekend getaway (3 days/2 nights & $500 airline voucher)
  • Helicopter tour of Seattle
  • Fishing trip off Washington Coast
  • Seattle Mariners & Sounds Tickets
  • Flip Video Camera
  • Lots of TERIS caps and t-shirts

Because the event was such a success, discussions are underway to host similar fundraiser events for local CASA organizations in our other markets. We'll be sure to post updates and any announcements of new events here.
